Globalisation, digitisation, changing demographics and widespread political uncertainty all present a challenging journey for educators, lifelong learning institutions and of course our economy.
Bright Futures LBG are committed and entirely focused on working towards the UN SDG as a longterm aim. In particular, our priority focus lies in working towards goals 4 and 8.
So, what are we doing?
Since establishing the charity in 2018, we have actively assisted 68 people across the Bailiwick. We have also proactively worked to fill looming skills and resource gaps, adopting a cradle to grave approach to human capital development. Other pro-active initiatives include:
Pre-School Years Easy Peasy Initiative
In May 2019 we ran a pilot with EasyPeasy to ensure that pre-school children and their parents had access to a curriculum focused app that they could use at home to ensure the transition into reception was as smooth and successful as possible. The results were excellent. We are now working towards a full Bailiwick roll out in 2020.
Spotlight on Human Capital Survey
Between May-July 2019 we launched the first spotlight on human capital survey. The findings helped to inform our investments planned for Q4 2019 and 2020.
The findings in short:
75% of respondents claimed to be carrying between 1-4 vacancies with a lost opportunity cost equating to 5% of total turnover for the location.
75% of respondents said that they would be interested in exploring online learning solutions. When asked about shortages in skills, employers responded that they struggled to recruit people with relevant technical skills (accountancy, co-sec, compliance, funds) as well as basic numeracy, literacy and digital skills.
New relationship formed with FutureLearn
In November 2019, we launched our relationship with FutureLearn to provide every Bailiwick resident with a learner account, for life.
And for next year
We are developing a draft Human Capital Strategy for the Bailiwick that aims to bring together all stakeholders in delivering a Bright Future for all residents.
